Thanks for the responses.

The dealer replaced the brake pads with a more aggressive pad and turned the rotors under warranty (32k miles). There are 2 TSBs out for brake related issues. Only one day on the new brakes but they seem ok now.

warped

My rotors are warped as well. I have an 08 LT that I purchased in October. I am going to call my dealer and find out what I can do about it, but I am slightly worried that I will just have the same problem again. I have heard that the biggest reason for warped rotors is over torquing the bolts that hold the rotors on the axle. I hope that it isnt a big problem for me....

I have read several posts awhile back about wheel bearings causing rotor related problems.

Cool Brakes

Not an only HHR thang. We bough a new 09 LT1, with the 2.4l a month ago. It's really the wife's car M-F, then it's our family car. Prior to that we had an 04 PT. I did a brake job on the PT at 32,000 miles. The pads were still OK, but the rotors were warped. We traded the car at 86,000. The Bendix replacement pads were still in great shape, but the rotors had been replaced at 41,000, 53,000(this time with Chrysler OEM's) & at 79,000.
Cheap steel is cheap steel. At least it seems GM covers the problem. Her Daimler could have cared less. Brakes are a wear item, so was the clutch plate that broke apart at 41,000 miles. We have been driving sticks our entire life & replaced one other clutch, on an 86 Voyager Van, with 149,000 miles on it.
I would have bought an HHR stick, but the deal was so good on the one we did buy it was a no brainer.
By the way, on balance the HHR is an upgrade, even to my Mopar Motivated wife.

Welcome....
I've also been a long time gear-jammer, so it was nice change to get the Auto in my Panel.. Plus I did not want another stick-shift..

Thumbs up Brakes and rotors

I had the chevy 27 point inspection for $29.95 at a little over 43,000 miles my brakes still had 50% of life left I was a little surprised they found nothing to repair or change even got the free car wash.

cause/evaluation of brake problems

My car has minor pulsation in the brakes at times which I have been ignoring. When I had all 4 tires replaced and lifetime alignment done on my 2LT a few months ago, Firestone said I had plenty of wear left on front and rear brakes. I don't plan to do anything until they otherwise need repair, unless the pulsing gets worse. I have read many threads on this, and am still confused about the cause of the problem. I have read about poor quality rotors that warp (solved by getting better quality aftermarket rotors, but that drilled/slotted adds nothing but cost) and about problems with excessive play in the hubs. Could someone please summarize, in simple fashion for a non-technical reader, which problem is the most common failure here, and what successful fixes have been done for the various causes of this frequent malady in HHRs?

EDIT - This is NOT the pulsing braking from activation of ABS, but rather feels like the rotors are slighly warped during normal braking.

Doctuh....... I have a very occasional pulsing from the brakes with my '07 2LT, never seems repeatable and the car stops fine. It feels more like the ABS than a rotor problem........
