P0573

Hey, I’ve replaced my brake switch circuit twice and still getting that P0573 code. What could be the reason for all of this?

I went and got the codes on it today. P0573 was the code that came up. Brake switch circuit High voltage was the reading. The part is $8 at auto zone. Simple fix. By the way if you're having these 3 lights come on AND your cruise control is not coming on then this is the reason!! It tells your computer NOT to activate cruise control because the sensor will not detect the correct speed and could cause you to go too fast and cause an accident.

Hi Kevin, to the forums!

Do the brake lights work? Do all the bulbs in the 3rd(CHMSL) brake light work? Are the bulbs incandescent or LED?

You've replaced the brake switch circuit? Do you mean the brake pedal position sensor?

The post you quoted (Candace) doesn't mention which part she replaced. And the reason she gives is incorrect.

It means that the brake lights are stuick on even when the brakes are not applied. Maybe somebody installed a trailer brake light circuit? Maybe somebody installed LEDs without resistors or resistors in the wrong place? Maybe a wire is chafed and making contact with a hot wire? Maybe somebody thought the CenterHighMountedStopLamp was just for show?

Inspect the wires, switches, grounds for the brake lights and CHMSL , it’s most likely simple.

I found the 3rd brake light was completely out, replaced the bulbs yesterday. They are incandescent. Yes the white switch attached to the pedal.

All the lights are still on in the dash Brake/ABS/Traction Control. I’ve cleared them, did battery disconnect.

P0573 has nothing to do with the ABS/Traction lights. It only disables cruise control. No need to clear codes, they clear themselves. The "history" is erased after 40 error free starts.
