I was thinking along those lines, but the left side only? And you'd think there would be directions to be read, if you wanted to read directions (I rarely do). But maybe the left side of the factory forgot to unlock them? If you get new strut shocks they usually come banded down, not up. My new Monroes did not have any locking.

The old fashioned "cartridges" were like that.

Right on - I had a look at their website and could find any install instructions (but am still looking).

Looks like they only make the install instructions available to their resellers.

How about this; not probable and maybe not well thought out: same length sway bar links on both sides?

Check under the dust skirts for obstructions.

donbrew just a hunch i remember having my lower control arms replaced about 4 months ago which i did not do and wondering the bolts maybe loose or not tight enough ,would that cause the strut spring to be loose inside.. I am just throwing that out there maybe check it on drivers side..Oh by the i have moogs sway-bar links on both sides

When under the car next, see if the sway bar is preloaded - ie: is pushing down (at first wrote "up" - duh) on the loose spring side. Would have to be on level ground of course to test.

and have you measured ground to fender lip while on level ground?

I can't see how a loose lower control arm would make the shock hyper-extend like that - but is worthwhile checking anyways.

It tis a mystery man.

Ok i will try that whopper anyways would the coil count come into play? example the unity strut has a 4 coil count and my factory spring has 3 coil count .. So i contacted there rep and he said he can not figure out how one side works as far as passenger side and the drivers side has this loose coil issue..I said maybe because there is more weight on that said were the motor lies ..I mean the strut is strong no doubt but i have taken it too a mechanic and he said that is the problem on the drivers side with the coil and can turn it quarter of inch either way while the car is on the ground..Well i ask for a refund so we ill see...Thanks to all the guys for the help!

The spring should not have any "bearing"(pun) on the situation. The weight of the car should push everything down so that it comes down onto the spring, even if there were no spring the car should come to rest on the top of the shock housing. One thing I was wondering about was the LCA hanging on something. If one of the links is 12" and the other is 10" there could be a problem (whatever the brand).

Something is preventing the SHOCK from compressing, or at least the body from dropping down to the spring.
