replacing struts
replacing struts
it looks like it takes some kind of special tool to get the sway bar loose from the strut..it looks like the bolt is longated on the head..is this true..sorta kinda of a oval..any help would be great..changing them out in a couple of weeks.wish i would have seen about the monroe's qs..i hope it works out ok.....
You have to hold the end of the link and then loosen the nut with a regular open end wrench. The link may have a recess to put a hex ended bit into to hold it from spiining or if you are replacing the link also(highly recommended) just use vice grips.
the stock sway bar links have a shallow(very shallow) set of flats(14mm, if i remember correctly) that allow you to "lock" the ball from spinning when you try to loosen the nuts....both top and bottom. a well fitting open end wrench is a must........along with an impat wrench on the nuts......this deal worked for me when i replced the stockers with moog links.......great move, by the way. also, the moogs have broad flats for an open end wrench.
And if you meant the bolts at the bottom of the strut that connect it to the steering knuckle. One side is a nut, the odd looking side is splined into the hole. You only need to hold it to keep it from spinning and doing damage to the bolt splines, or not.
called monroe about the wrong spring issue & gave them the numbers i had on the boxes,,the right one was fine, had to send the left back for replacement..glad i read on here about this problem before i tried to install..now i hope they work with no problems when i do install them...thanks for the info........
Well whatever you do do NOT throw out your OEM springs when you take off.the original struts. At least not.until you have put say, 100,000 miles on the quick struts. I have had the replacements already and the springs are not factory equivalents.
