replacing struts

In the salt belt, those nuts are VERY difficult to remove. I got three of mine off only after holding the shaft very tightly with a vise-grip. The fourth one refused to come off because no matter how tight I made the vise-grip, the shaft eventually would spin and it would drop the vise grip. On that one, I eventually spun the nut all the way back on and used my angle grinder to remove all the exposed portion of the threaded shaft. Then the nut came off OK. I suspect the nuts are thread-deformed (or something) to resist unthreading. The nuts on the tie rod ends are the same way.

And yes, the Moog endlinks are wonderful with a nice, robust hex on it to hold it with a wrench.

It is starting to sound like the springs on the Monroe quick struts are not that good?
