Suspension Question
Suspension Question
Hello all, I just joined the site and have learned much by reading/searching through the forums. I recently bought a 2006 LT and am currently trying to decide on a new suspension set up as my front factory struts are leaking.
I am thinking of going with the H&R sport springs (progressive), KYB struts and shocks (Excel G/GR-2), and the progress technology rear sway bar (22mm). I'm only looking for a mild lowering with overall better performance and durability. I don't mind a bit of ride harshness, but since this is my daily driver I don't need anything extreme. Also, I'm currently running the stock 17" wheels with Kuhmo Ecsta LX Platinum tires.
From searching I found one person who has a similar setup and they seem very happy with it. My main concern is durability. I understand that the KYB's are a replacement for the FE3 suspension components which are what the LT currently has. Will the 1" front/1.2" rear drop that the H&R springs provide be detrimental to the lifespan of the KYB's or can they handle that with no problem? Any insight that you all could provide would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome! That setup sounds like it will deliver about what you are looking for. I have had good luck with GR-2s on other vehicles, but usually at or near stock height. I used KYB AGX (adjustable gas struts) on the one that was lowered significantly, and they went over 100K and about 4.5 years before I sold the car. So, I am leaning toward saying yes on this, though I have no model-specific knowledge to base it on.
The spring rate is what would make the difference. On my lowered car, the rates were nearly twice as stiff - as a reference point.
The rear sway bar is all good. You won't notice anything negative.
