Suspension Question

Need to change my suspension out but don't know what route to go?

Stock FE5 struts and shocks with Eibach springs?

KYB struts and shocks with Eibach springs?

dont want or need to fork out the money for coil overs?

also going to get TTR Rear sway bar heard many good things about it!!

Welcome to the forum, I have made a few suspension changes on mine, seems there are lots of opinion here, sounds like you want to be lower, I have heard good things about the eibach springs, I chose to go with YYZ's V1, they are stellar so much so I bought a set of V-2's planing on putting them on a SS with the fe5 struts. I have owned a couple sway bars too, one works great the other not so great. Happy modding

On my LS I went with FE5 shocks and struts and combined them with Pedders springs and a TTR Rear swaybar. Then just so my suspension wouldn't be wasted on lousy stock tires, I upgraded to a set of 17"x7.5" wheels andsome Nitto INVO 235/45/17 tires all the way around

Definitely have to avoid any decent sized bumps now though, because it does hit them a bit hard. I know this set-up won't make as huge a difference on an SS, but I love what it did for my HHR

The YYZ's are on my 2LT panel , the SS has KWV2's which kick a little butt too.

Had a set of pedders on the SS, 2 days, way too much bounce for me.

I'd love to get some lowering springs myself, I love the look of HHRs on Canuck Cobalt springs (coilovers are too pricey for me, or else I'd go that route).

But I've always wondered if it would be worth it to also replace the shocks/struts at the time I put the lower springs in, with just a new set of FE5s? My shocks/struts will be pretty worn by the time I can afford lowering springs, my SS already has 51k miles on it and will probably have closer to 60k by the time I actually can afford lowering springs.

CED has the stock Cobalt SS/TC shocks/struts package for like $300. Anyone with lowering springs ever done this/thought about it? Would it be worth doing, compared to having to shell out 600 bones for Koni shock/struts? Or would my original FE5s not even need replacing?

Sorry if this sidetracks the thread

me personally i would stick to the fe5 with whatever springs you want to put on it...no point in shelling out more money for the koni shocks when we know that the fe5's are good and more than capable of doing the job...just be careful if you go cobalt canuks since they are not meant for the HHR and if you have bad roads and clearance issues...i contacted them in the past asking about those springs on HHR and they told me to not do it, but ultimately its the purchasers decision

I agree my fe5 struts are still too stiff with the yyzv1 at 78k I am going to put the fe-3's back on. Save the Fe-5's to go with the yyzv2's I have in the box for the SS which can need a little stiffness at times

Never tried any Koni's but have heard it through the grape vine, they are a little stiffer yet. keep in mine this come from a guy who runs his coilovers at .05 clicks of damping....
