Undiagnosed noise

Hi all,

I have an 11 HHR with 109K on it. Earlier in the year, I was experiencing a harsh vibration (the wheel would shake side to side very slightly) from the front end when getting on the freeway in the morning before the vehicle was warmed up. Additionally, there was a pulsating that would increase in volume as speeds rose, and was present in all conditions.

My friend diagnosed the problem as a bad bearing, and we replaced both front hub units, as well as the front brakes which were due.

Everything was fine for a bit, but then the left front hub started to make noise again. A local garage diagnosed the issue, and replaced the hub a few weeks ago.

Everything seems fine now, with the exception of a "granular" sensation in both noise and feel when the vehicle is anywhere from 20MPH or below, regardless of braking or not.

What could this be? Thanks in advance!

Matt

Thanks for the responses. I could probably Google this, but are the rear bearings part of the hub assembly, as in the front?

Thanks!

I asked the same questions of the Chevy HHR Owners group on FB, and just about everyone said it was tires. I posted this response a few minutes ago:

"I went to Discount Tire here in Michigan today, and had all 4 tires rotated and rebalanced, as well as the TPMS sensors reprogrammed. The tech told me that the wheels seemed to be out of alignment, like the last person working on them didn't know what they were doing. I haven't put but 5 miles on the vehicle at city speeds, but there seems to be an improvement. I appreciate all the responses."

I appreciate all of your responses, here, as well.
