Code read

I got the code that was given when my trans was shifting erratically. The code was PO742. Anyone know what that code is? Thanks

I took my HHR to a Chevy dealer today with the results of having the code read. The tech said it wasn’t the torque converter clutch solenoid, it was actually the converter itself. He called it torque converter shutter. Is he blowing smoke up my butt or is he right?

You can find additives to help with shudder.

Hmm, I don’t se torque converter listed in probable causes, I do see TCC solenoid , change the shift solenoids while you’re in there

I installed an additive to get rid of converter shudder and it got rid of the shudder and left me with a very harsh 1-2 and 2-3 shift. I’m still thinking the Chevy tech is way off base with his torque converter diagnosis. I think the fluid and filter needs changed and the shift solenoids need replaced. Any other opinions?

The code directs us to the TCC clutch solenoid, I did suggest to change the shift solenoids while you’re in there . I never recommend any additives to the transmission fluid.

Codes can be misleading, some see camshaft or crankshaft position sensor, which are in a fixed position thought to be tge problem when they are just doing their job indicating the timing is out, which can only mean the timing chain is the problem. Many spend the money to load the parts canon some pour additives to the engine thinking that’s going to fix a start up rattling, wrong again, it’s a timing chain or tensioner issue.
