Intermitant transmission slip??

Any ideas what's wrong ?---When I first start the engine I can drive away with no problem. Then after driving a few blocks and stoping...the take off causes slipping. Once I nurse it through the gears it takes off and works fine with no issues.

88k miles, no codes or fluid leak, fluid replaced at 60K

Making the assumption that the proper fluid was used at the 60K service, then there's no way to sugar coat this my friend.

Shifts fine when cold + Slips when warm = A failing 4T-45E transmission.

You can, and should, take it to a reputable transmission shop or your dealer for a diagnostic check, but it sounds like a classic case of Second/Third Gear clutch failure.

Rebuilding or replacement with a reman unit are the options at that point.

That must be a result of bad or incorrect fluid change as I have always been under the assumption our little wagons have fairly beefy transmissions..... Especially to fail at 88K

The fluid was changed by Penske Chevrolet, so hopefully the correct fluid is in it.

The tranny does not slip when warm, only once after a cold start and short drive then stop. After the first slip and shift through the gears, Then it locks up with no slipping at all....but no error codes.

Have you actually pulled the codes ? Or are you just saying you haven't gotten a CEL yet.
If you haven't pulled them, there could be a stored code that did not trigger the CEL.

No CEL, and no I have not pulled codes. Can there be codes without a CEL light coming on?
Thanks for the reply on this problem

Perhaps Penske can confirm this persnickety problem. It might be an internal solenoid!

Sure.
Certain codes don't allows trigger a CEL.

Can't say for certain with Chevy's but my old Hyundai Accent threw codes all the time without the CEL ever coming on.

Well I stopped at Auto Zone, and O Riley's, and had them put the code reader on.
Both guys came up with no code.

The fact that this malfunction is somewhat intermittent, I was really expecting a code.

In an attempt to spare my bank account the abuse that this problem could do to it,
I dumped in a bottle of Lucas Transmission fix...(Is there really little mechanics in the bottle that go to work fixing your tranny ?)

I'll let you guys know how this all works out.
