I have the old manual trans on my workbench with the case apart. I'm at work now, but I'll take closeup pictures of the shifter assembly on the transmission, including pictures of what's inside.

Meanwhile, here's a picture I had on my phone of the trans:

Also a little bit of a closeup of the shifter area:

These pics probably aren't too helpful right now, but I'll take a closeup of the shifter mechanism on the outside of the transmission later.

In case you wanted to remove the shifter, here are some pictures from the service manual:

Thank you. So few more questions. Can this part be removed with the trans in the car? Mine works but since it's gotten cold this yr it hasn't shifted. When the car warns up and I get heat under the hood it seems to free itself up and i can shift normally. Tonight I did the best I could to grease it all as I had my dad move the shifter around. Any other solutions for this. Tha is again for the pics.

Yes, it can be removed from the trans while on the car. However, you will have to unbolt the fuse box and bungee it out of the way so you can get at the top of the trans.

When it's cold and won't shift, I would pop off the shift cables and then see if you can move the shifter (on the trans) by hand. Then I would see if you can move the shifter (inside the car). This would place the problem either with the transmission or with the cables.

I find it hard to believe that there would be such a drastic difference in shifting (won't move vs moves normally) just by warming up metal trans parts. I wonder if somehow water got into the cable (between inner cable and outer sheath) and is freezing?
