Tcm issues?

Hey new to the group but have a question, have a 2006 hhr with the 2.4 ecotec wouldn’t shift from second to third, so I figured shift solenoids b, turns out it was burnt up and bad so I’ve replaced it, put it all back together but in the process tcm contacted battery post up front and arced. Car only goes in forward gears wether shifted in reverse neutral anything but park. Then my uncle grabbed it and arced it again against the same post, then the car wouldn’t even start. Ran a ground wire from the tcm car started and ran forward in all gears again, curious it has to be the tcm...but can I interchange it with a newer cobalt or any other vehicle and it be fine? Any insight or knowledge would be appreciated and I know it sounds bad but three pretty experienced mechanics and just used to older vehicles not knowledgeable with electronics. Thanks

I think you can go to a junkyard and get one from a 2006 2.4l HHR and plug and play.

There is even a TSB warning against touching the TCM casing with a hot wire.

Yeah I’m pretty sure that’s what is causing my issues, wondering tho I’m being told I would be able to replace it with a cobalts tcm. Any info on that? Mines a 2006 and the junkyards saying a 2010 cobalt will interchange, both have 2.4 and are front wheel drive which makes me think maybe it will but I need more info

Just compare part numbers. If the Cobalt TCM has the same part number as yours, then it should work.

EDIT. A little research at GMpartsdirect shows the 2006 HHR and 2010 Cobalt use the same TCM.
Part # 24252114. They list it for $96.76.

I( don't know if the TCM needs programming.

Awesome thanks guys I’ve been calling around to find one, apparently from what I gathered if it’s used and the numbers match I should be able to just plug and go but a new one will require programming. Thanks for all the insight!

Different models and years use different tables, so best to stay with what you got. HHR are easy to find, try Ebay.
