DIC Gas Readout

Hello all. Does anybody notice on the DIC that the gas milage readout is alot higher in the summer? Does anyone know why? I'm starting to wonder if I'm getting Premium all year round. Thanks in advance.

Well, don't you folks up in Canada have different winter and summer gasoline? Could be the reason.
Way down here in the southern states my gas mileage stays pretty much the same year round.

Ya, I'm getting a readout of 450 kilometres in the winter and 625 in the summer. I use the same gas all year round?

Winter gas is usually different, also you have warm up times, some tire slippage, a lot of people run winter tires, etc. etc. All that stuff adds up to less MPG.

You may buy the same gas, but I believe the gasoline manufacturers have a different "blend" for the different seasons.
Also the things that Greybeard mentioned could be a factor too.

Yeah Tyler, even though you buy the same brand and the same grade, the actual chemical formulation of the gasoline changes seasonally in cold weather areas.

If they didn't adjust for climatic extremes in places like Canada and the Northern U.S., you'd either have a good running HHR that barely runs in the winter, or one that runs great when its freezing outside and won't run in the summer.

Wow !!! 39 MPG, that's better than any other HHR for daily use. Unless of course you are driving at a steady 40 MPH.

Also that's pretty significant increase even for a fuel change.....something like a 28% increase.

I'd check to see if someone is adding fuel to your tank....without you knowing it.

Temperature. In the winter it takes longer to warm up..your trans does not shift into lockup untill about 165F so your running higher rpms..also there is a kind of 'cold' circuit in the programing that feeds more fuel to maintain stable running ( kind o like a choke ).
I see this same effect evvery winter..some of it is probably fuel blend also as it 'seems' like it starts and stops abruptly. Mine drops about 2mpg...
