My 87 Octane gas prices here on LI are at $2.73 right now. The only way I get the E85 is it has to be $1.73 or less and only when I pass a station. I don't go out of my way. I do get a kick out of people watching me use the "yellow" handled hose-and then they see the $1 or more cheaper price. They look dumbfounded. I figured out I get about 4-5 miles per gallon less that the 87 Octane-hence paying the $1 or more less makes it OK. The only way it would get cheaper by me is if more stations started selling it. Right now there is only a handful on LI that do.

If an engine was optimized to run on e85 it would be a lot more efficient. I have heard it has an octane rating of 105. If the compression was increased it would be more efficient. It probably helps in keeping water out of the fuel system. around here in the winter I will put in a bottle of dry gas (isoprpyl alcohol) similiar to e85 to prevent gas line freeze, never can tell how clean the fuel supply is from some of these gas stations.

Shhhh my secret is out now but when you return a rental flex f e85 car/truck fill it with e85, that way the next guy gets the crapy mileage and costs you less for the refill.

Ethanol is a scam period, it does nothing for the environment, causes harm to engines plastic, rubber and screws up carbs etc.

What it does do, makes oil companys richer, drives up food costs for farmers and all the rest of us. Its a total SCAM!
