Gas Mileage
Just for s&gs, I ran the tank down to about a gallon and filled up with 91 Octane - 14.669 Gallons worth. I figure I have enough tanks of 87 octane to have a decent idea of what I get in the real world.
I want to see just how it does. I'll run a few tanks through and see what happens. I'm not changing my driving habits, just getting "real world" numbers as it pertains to my HHR. I'm not expecting any great gains in MPG if any at all, but given the difference in MPG with the Non ethanol 87 octane stuff on the last road trip, it makes me wonder.
plus I'm having fun with my spreadsheet.

Ok.....reading 28 pages of mileage info ... I think I got it.
What I want to know is what happens now that the new 2.2L vvt and so called improved 2.4L engine are on the scene for "2009".
Chevy says,
2.2L Getrag 5spd manual trans.
32mpg ... Gasoline
23mpg ... E85
2.4L Getrag 5spd manual trans.
30mpg ... Gasoline
22mpg ... E85
Anybody driving a 2009 yet ?????
P.S. Just for kicks I drove the new 2009 Honda Fit yesterday. Stiff ride and to firm seats. Kinda like a ultra deluxe Go Cart.
Really a car for the younger generation........Bah Humbug.

my 2 cents
When I first got my HHR, brand new with 30 miles on it, my mpg was not that good either. After putting 3000 miles on it I noticed the mpg improving from 19mpg to22.5 average. then I begin to learn how to drive it, from a dead stop as I pick up speed I lift my foot up off the gas and the car shifts to the higher gear. Now I pretty much get 23.5 to 24.5 in city and 29.5 to 31 on the highway. I am very pleased with mine, its fun!!!

I have a 2009 2LT, automatic trans, with only about 2,200 miles. It has just about all been city miles and I'm getting 24.4, so I am very pleased. Especially since ya'll are saying that when it's broken in I'll get better!
We are taking it on a trip in Jan to Jacksonville, FL, so THEN it'll have some highway miles on it for sure. I'll post after that to let you know-

I averaged 29.6 m.p.g. on my last tank which was about half highway driving. With gas prices decreasing,I finally filled up with the recommended premium albeit with a different brand of gas than I usually use.So we will see if there's any difference with this change like there was when I went from 87 to 89 rating gas.
And yes,I'm VERY pleased with the gas mileage so far.I'm averaging about what the federal tests say the highway mileage should be.

I just drove 400 total miles, with cruise control on and always going the speed limit (65 to 70) nonstop.
One way, I averaged 27.8 and on the way back I averaged 26.2. I'm kinda disappointed but I did cross a mountain pass both ways... and the way back I seemed to face a constant, irritating head wind!

If you drove another car what do you think you would get?
