Went to Detriot Metro airport to pick up my nephew yesterday and reset everything on the Dic. I set the cruise control at about 74 mph and the DIC said I got 29.3 mpg on this road trip with 89 Octane.

So with that said, my milage is not as bad as I thought it was.

I gotta tell you, I LOVE that Onstar. Took me from my home perfectly into Detriot Metro and than back home with no issues.

The DIC shows I'm getting about 22.2 MPG.

Did I expect better? Yes.
Do I manually figure? Yes, I have a spreadsheet made up for both cars. Just plug in the numbers and the Math is done for you. Even have a Graph to give a visual. (it's nifty)

I traded a big V8 in for the HHR so I'm STILL doing better than I was, So I'm not complaining.

I'll be on the road this weekend picking Dad up from The Yankton/Vermillion, SD Area. We'll be heading north up I-35/135 to Salina then up 81 from there. ( if you see me, wave!) 81 is 65 all the way up of the majority of the trip will be in the ideal range. So I'm interested in how the HHR will fare. I'll be resetting the DIC to see how close it is, right now, It's off about 1 mpg from my manual figures. This will be the first time I will have the HHR on the highway for any length amount of time.

I'm excited to see how it does.

Noriscan.....

I made that route last year, only southbound. I was close to 33 MPG, as I recall. Hope you see the same result.

Have a great trip.

US ol' retired guys have nothing but time on our hands. So it's kind of fun assembling data......and I'm kind of use to it.

I supplied the same type, plus additional, data to GM when I was a "career" guy and as a participant recently in Consumer Duribility and Performance Fleet.

Bring all tires up to 37psi cold (assuming your max is 40psi like mine), run whatever octane you normally run, stay under 70 and use cruise if you have the automatic. Like snoop-dog said, you should see 33ish MPG

And isn't it great to finally have the time on our hands. I felt guilty even looking at the thread for "How Far is Your Commute to Work".

There is one problem, We don't have as much time left on our hands as these younger guys have. They will be tossing dirt on us while they drive cars we never thought of.

Ill plant some daisy's in that dirt. Maybe a nice oak tree.
I'd like to be tossed into the eye of a volcano myself actually.
