The "I" stands for intermediate, and there's no overdrive...... not to be confused with "inter-stellar overdrive"

HAH! Either way, I just affects the shifting metrics, not the gear you end up in finally. Interesting tidbit I'm sure everyone knows.. except the person who doesn't!

You sure about that? I thought it wont go into 4th gear in "I", but then I havent gotten it to redline in 3rd either.

Yup. Check the manual again homie. I haven't put it to the test yet, but basically its stated as limiting or reducing the number of times the tranny is shifted gear to gear, useful for variable terrain to save wear and tear on the gears and possibly even save the gas a tad.
