Updated first post. The new cupholder started in 2009. I like it a lot better.

X2
cup holder placement (or switches for that matter) never bothered me. Other then what looks like a little more rubber, what is the difference?

I see an advantage in that you can pull the whole thing out when cleaning. Old style, because of the notches to the side, there's potential for dirt and liquid between the seat and console

Exactly the advantage I'm seeing, pull it out for a quick wash and you're good to go.

Another advantage I can see (at least for me), is that my set of keys wouldn't keep sliding out and winding up under the driver's seat.

Yes, I keep Dory's key on her own ring that separates from the rest so I don't have them dangling and annoying my knee.

If only it were that easy and cheap.

Looking at the diagrams, the old style has the cup holders molded in the center console compared to the new style that has a hole cut out for the rubberized cup holder to fit in.

i do the same. ever since i took my jimmy in one time to the shop and i had to take it's keys off, when i got it back, I never put it back on. Loved it not hitting my knee, and if i have the car running in the winter and forgot something upstairs, i just take the house keys.

however i just keep both sets in my pocket, so they don't fall under the seat.

Anyone got a pic of the full 09 center? I'd like to see what the back looks like. Hard to get a feel for it from the diagram.

I know but it doesn't show the entire console, the back is different too.
