It could be that the coolant needs to be burped.

https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/how-...-system-60614/

And it may be that there is now to much Freon in the system.

What thermostat did you install? An AC Delco 131-158 180 degrees?

This sure is confused. Does the AC start blowing hot then the engine gets hot? Or, the other way around? Is the heater temp anywhere in the red (should be all the way to the left)?

The Radiator fan should be on if the AC is on or the temp gets to 219F. 235F is very close to the danger zone!

T-stat has NOTHING to do with overheating; it's job is to keep the temp ABOVE 180F. Unless, somebody took it out of the engine heated it up and drilled a hole in it to drain the wax out then replaced it.

How do you define "correct level"?. Adding freon in a can with a gauge on it, or with a set of gauges and some knowledge of AC systems.

donbrew, I think the cooling fan runs by different rules on an SS. Do you have information on this?

Cooling fan 2008 hhr ss

I was told the 06-11 hhr 's with 2.0 turbo , 2.2 and 2.4 all use the same kind of cooling fan can anyone verify this

You were told wrong.
06-11 HHR LS/LT 2.2, 2.4 use the same fan system.
The 08-10 w/2.0L turbo SS uses a different fan system with a built in control module. It has a variable speed type fan.

As RJ stated, the SS fan is programmed to different temp ranges than regular HHR's.

Cooling fan

so if you use the cooling fan from an lt or ls 2.2 or 2.4 it will not work on the 2.0 SS correct

Rockauto has the module for $115, the complete fan w/module $178. Don't forget the code for 5% off. https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/supp...-2021-a-61707/

Then there's something else listed, cooling fan controller, for $33. I don't know what that is, looks like a sending unit.
