SS cooling fan not running

I have a 2008 SS that was starting to overheat. I replaced the cooling fan module hoping that was the issue( shop said that was the problem). The fan comes on when I turn the AC on. From my understanding the fan is supposed to be on all the time with the SS. Any ideas on what else to check?

Mine doesn't run all the time either, not the first one that quit, or the second one they replaced it with. They have two speeds. I guess you need a new fan motor assembly.

2 speeds

What triggers the fan to hit the higher speed? You would think that if the motor was bad then it wouldn't run at all. Looks like a big job to replace the fan motor....ugh!

My guess would be temperature . It took my dealer a couple trys to figure it out, I think it went from intermittent to failed, in between attempts. They wanted 700.00 to fix it. I whined about it, and they got GM to cover 500.00 said it was cause I only had 60K on it.

My cooling fan went out a while back. Until I figured out what was wrong, I was able to drive it still. I would have to shut the car off at long lights though. Driving cooled me back down to 192 all the time. I bought the fan assembly from a friend at a dealership for like $230 and installed it in my driveway and haven't had a problem. Our fans have multiple speeds. And I have never heard of a fan that runs all the time. They are temperature controlled

I may be wrong but I believe it was Chevymgr that said the hhr ss fan runs all the time.
I noticed that with my ss when it is hotter out it seems to run cooler.
Also when it is cder out it seems to run hotter.
My ss is hibernating from our salty winters up here so I cannot do anymore tezting at this point.
It seems like I would get on the highway when it was say 35 out and my car would go up to 214
Before it woukd start cooling down.
My first impression was that it was a thermostat.
But. Tested over and over and if I leave the ac off and turn the heat selecor knob to cold oddly enough the car. Will run up to about 200 then stRt cooling down.
Summmer time it appears there is no issue.
I am thinking themostat but its almost as if the car was made to run hotter in the winter.
It does have ths gmtu.
