And, it's just like previous years' that were recalled - I can see fuel line corrosion in front of the tire, in the left rear wheel well. It's a consistent drip and the odor is insane!
However, when I check to see if there's a recall, the VIN search says there's no recall associated with my car.

What are the chances of my car having the EXACT problem at the EXACT place on my car but not be part of the recall because it doesn't fall into the 2006 - 2009 recall?
Is there any chance of the dealership accepting the repair free-of-charge or am I screwed?
(Yes, I know I have to call the dealership but it's Friday night and they're not open until Monday.)
How frustrating...I do not feel like shelling out money I don't have because it "missed" the manufactured date by a few weeks etc.!!!

Haven't heard of a recall related to the fuel lines. Do you have a recall number for it?

 

I don't know how to find the recall number unless it's a matter of searching the web. I did that and can only find dozens articles and reports on it. None of them list a recall number

 

I guess the problem also occurs on the Cobolt.

 

I have not heard of any recalls regarding a fuel leak problem. Maybe you are confusing the word "recall" with some type of safety notice. You do state that you only found articles and reports.
Post up a link to where you got this so called "recall" info.

 

There was an "investigation" announced a few months ago. That means that if a few people get injured as a result they might do something official. Otherwise, remember that 2006 was 15 years ago.
Bottom line if the NHTSA site says "no recalls" for your VIN that means there are no recalls.

Get it fixed don't wait for someone else to save your life.

Thank you for the responses and information. Believe me, I've already informed my son that we're stuck at home until it's repaired. I've done some hefty repairs but I've never done anything associated with the fuel "system" so I think I'll leave it up to the local mechanic.

 

The fuel lines aren’t hard to replace, there are steel or nylon skits available online, I’ve done both and I prefer the nylon kit, it’s much easier to maneuver into place.

As far as a recall for the corrosion problem, there isn’t one. As you see, the fuel or vapour line develops a pin hole around the driver’s rear tire, usually under the insulation sleeve. Both my 2007 LS and 2011 2LT had the vapour , or return line rot out, I changed them in my driveway.
