Is it possible to do away with the horn sounding when I unlock the door using the key on my 2006 HHR LT ? I do care if it deactivates the alarm completely these alarms never stopped a thief anyway.

To disarm the alarm using the key:

. . . 1st turn left and unlock
. . . 2nd lock the door. Locking disarms the alarm.
. . . 3rd unlock the door.

you can now open the door without setting off the alarm

To arm without the Key Fob, just power lock the doors using the control beside the door handle.

 

Not sure with a 2006, but if you lock with the key (not the remote) then unlock with the key should not sound horn. Also check the Owner Manual (available on this forum) There is probably a setting in the DIC to set the horn for locking/unlocking, but not the "alarm".

Anyway, on my 2008 it is using the remote to lock that sets the alarm system.
