Make sure that price includes destination, I think you might even get it a little cheaper if you try.

If the HHR has more then 1K in options that you really don't care for then you might want to keep looking, the down side is the more you look the less that's available. When I bought mine a few days ago it had a sunroof and XM radio that I would normaly not get, in the end it wasn't enough to keep me from buying it though.

Well you know it's the end of the model year so the pickins are getting slim, but with that said a lot will depend on how badly the dealer want's to sell. Since it is a bit over what you were looking to buy, now it's time to deal. Most dealers tack on a dealer fee, these fees can be as low as $400.00 and as High as $1500.00 (it really varies). Not all dealers charge this bogus fee, but if your dealer does then bargain that out of the price. My sales person had to show it on the buyers order but discounted the price of the HHR an equal amount. You may also get them to bring it in on their dime. Keep in mind that all you really want out of the deal is a smart buy. The HHR doesn't have a lot of markup and the sales person you deal with needs to make a buck too. Most of the markup is in the add on equipment so there your bargaining tool along with what's already been said. If you show them your real serious good things can happen. Good luck to ya. -Dan

They gave me an out the door price of 22,248.77
This includes Tax (7%), Tag and Title ($30), which means the dealer fee is about $330~.

I started out looking at the most economy route to go, and now here I am looking at a pretty much loaded up 2LT. How in the world did that happen??? I already have a truck which is pretty much just a show truck, so there's one money pit. I also have a car that I strictly use for autocross, so there's another money pit. Do I really want something else to throw money at???

I really "want" a 5spd (I love 5-speeds, and it's less money), running boards are a "must" (I know the dealer can throw those on any one of them), I'd like a sunroof, and everything else is just kind of "well, that would be cool". I'm still trying to figure out if the 2.4 is "that" much better than the 2.2. The suspension of the 2LT I think I'd like, but isn't really necessary for the purpose of this car.

So now I'm trying to weigh my options, and talk myself into what I "need" rather than into what I "want".

I searched the Internet all afternoon looking at dealer inventory all across GA, and this is what else I have found in 5 speeds.

SilverStone Metallic 1LT with gray cloth, 2.2L 5 speed; Bright Chrome Package; Sunroof

Victory Red "Spring Edition", 1LT, 2.4L motor option; XM, 7-speaker sound; 6-disc changer

White, 2LT Option; 2.4l Motor option; Cashmere interior; XM; leather;

Black 1LT, 2.2l motor, gray cloth,

SilverStone Metallic 1LT, 2.2l motor, gray cloth; Sunroof;

Victory Red 1LT "Spring Edition", 2.4l motor option, gray/ebony interior (no other options).

Dark Silver Metallic 1LT, 2.2L motor, Gray cloth; running boards and roof rails;

Silverstone metallic 1LT, 2.2L motor, gray cloth, Bright chrome package, fog lamps, sunroof

2.2 L61:
Displacement is 2.2 l (2189 cc) with an 86 mm (3.38 in) bore and 94.6 mm (3.72 in) stroke. Compression is 9.5:1 or 10:1, delivering 135 hp to 143 hp (101 kW to 107 kW) and 142 ft·lbf to 152 ft·lbf (193 N·m to 206 N·m) of torque

2.4 LE5:
Both the 88 mm bore and 98 mm stroke are larger, and Variable Valve Timing improves low-end torque. Power is 170 hp (127 kW) and torque is 170 ft·lbf (230 N·m). The engine uses enfored "Gen II" block.

Based on the ones listed above, I personally would go for the red or white ones, but most likely the Victory Red. It's a real snazzy red and automatically comes with running boards and the nice chrome rims. Also already pinstriped and has 2 tone seats. If XM is not something you feel you really want, then I'd go with the one without it. If I were to buy another one or my boyfriend did...those are the 2 colors we've narrowed it down to.

Good luck and we look forward to hearing what you decide.

You know, reading back through this thread and other threads I realize that the 2.4L may half way defeat my purpose of looking for a fuel efficient car. Am I reading that right? The 2.4 requires premium fuel???

Straight from owners manual:

If your vehicle has the 2.4L L4 engine (VIN Code P),
use premium unleaded gasoline with a posted octane
rating of 91 or higher. You may also use regular
unleaded gasoline rated at 87 octane or higher, but
your vehicle’s acceleration may be slightly reduced,
and you may notice a slight audible knocking noise,
commonly referred to as spark knock. If the octane is
less than 87, you may notice a heavy knocking
noise when you drive. If this occurs, use a gasoline
rated at 87 octane or higher as soon as possible.
Otherwise, you might damage your engine. If you are
using gasoline rated at 87 octane or higher and you hear
heavy knocking, your engine needs service.

Online link to owners manual is here. I keep mine in my car so it's easier to refer to it online when going through forum than running out and getting it. Might want to bookmark it on your computer for easy reference.

The 2.4 is without a doubt going to perform better, and both engines seem to be getting about the same mileage. Running regular in the 2.4 would give you less performance but still better than the 2.2. And the computer will compensate for the lower grade gas, at least for the most part. But either engine is very good, all the engines in the Echotec family are pretty solid from what I've seen, and they seem to have more punch than other manufacture's offerings of the same or similar displacement.

nothing personal there
just commenting that the engine rpms sound the same on both standard and auto, becasue u said it was different. and i never said anything about taking off from a light, it was about passing and rpms and you came in w the comment it was different

i have an auto cause the wife wont learn a standard, i actually have liked standards all my life but this is our 2nd car and she has to be able to use it so i got the auto instead... the expense in the rebuild on the auto is more not less

the comment about the lowered rides was in jest that even if you had a standard that made it faster that u have to slow down for all the bumps so to me the lowered ride takes away your performance edge in that u cant fully use it n less you have the bags all the way up which of course that works as normal. most wont do that on lowered rides cause they all cant afford to bag their HHR

nothing personal there cept the BS part and that was just a comment to the sound differnce at 6500 rpms.

and true, after following u 2 w lowered rides that day and all the stopping it convinced me that if i want to drive my hhr like a sports car, then dont lower it

amazing how its ok to tell me a point but ur out of here and its personal if i make one
