Sad situation all around..(any time of the year)..

 

My prayers go out to his family..... so tragic I wonder what happened to lead up to this

 

You have the situation reversed. It is usually the Trucker that calls in a hazard on the roadway....then after 5 minutes of getting bounced around to various agencies that are SUPPOSED to be serving and protecting.....it is usually too late....

 

Just read the article in today' s paper. They are investigating why he was only going 10 miles an hour. Very sad especially with the holidays here.

 

Before I'd really beat up on the trucker it would help to know the whole situation. I'm sure he tried to stop or miss the HHR, but even in a brand new and perfectly maintained truck, a panic stop isn't pleasant or easy. Most truck drivers hold us "four wheelers" with a mixture of disdain and contempt, sometimes justly deserved. I have my CDL and while building my businesses I was the truck driver along with everything else. Nothing gets your attention more than having some goof in a car cut you off when you weigh 80,000lbs, your heart stops.

 

If I was investingating the accident, I would check into possible medical issues with the driver. If he was a diabetic (I'm one), he could have had a low blood sugar episode, which could cause confusion and disorientation......

 

If anyone hears more on this, please post. Like everyone else, I'm wondering why he was driving so slow in the center lane.

Easy for you to say on the web. Behind the wheel of a semi in some conditions this could happen very easy.

Slow car in traffic often get struck from behind.

 

I teach a safety class for UPS.

I have 20 years without a DOT preventable accident and over 1.5 million accident free miles.

I have been a professional witness and accident investigator.

I have every driver's license endorsement except passenger.

Every accident can and should be prevented.

If that HHR had been STOPPED...there is still no excuse to run into it!

As stated we do not know all the facts, but I see too many so-called truck drivers taking too many chances......this sort of accident is ALWAYS preventable!
