Battery location

LOL I had NO idea the battery was located in the back of the car. Its good to know! I had a Sebring Convertible before my HHR and the battery died and my husband came in and said "where is your battery?" Stumped, he got out the handy book and it was located behind the front wheel. It stated you DID NOT have to remove the tire but my husbands hands were too big so the tire had to come off. It took him an hour to change a battery! He just shook his head and said how he missed the "old" days of batteries under the hood. I wonder if he knows my HHR battery is in the back??? I guess I should read my book on the car. LOL

What vehicle did you have before the HHR?? ALMOST all vehicles that have a battery under the hood are a nightmare to take out also........
I believe the "forward" thought by the manufacturers is to place the battery in the trunk, to provide projected longevity (as well as weight distribution). It somewhat isolates the battery from heat. It works for me, here in AZ. I have a 2002 Aurora with the original battery still in use (under rear seat). On a custom vehicle I moved the battery to the rear and that battery is still the in use after 7 years.
I guess the point is......if you start with a good battery
you shouldn't need to replace it for quite a while. In my book, that's worth the "inconvenience".

No no... "I" didn't almost have the battery acid to the face, my bro-in-law did. We were putting on my underbody lights, and the brackets that hold the lights each have two screws. He was putting the back one on while I was putting one of the sides on, and I told him he should take out the battery or move it because he was drilling right under it. He thought he was missing the battery, but after the drill went through the metal, down came the battery acid. He rolled out from under it in time, but it was damn close.
