Your rotors are warped. Take it in and get 'em fixed ASAP or it will get worse.

The front brakes are the weak point on this vehicle... expect to be doing this often.

They may not be warped and just have brake material imbedded in to them.

Rotors do not warp due to wear or heat but they will it over torqued. These are the two issue in play.

What most times happens after hard stops you sit and use clamping force of the pads on the rotor and pad material will bond to the rotor. It is like a kitchen floor that is slippery and smooth and you spill some Coke on it. That one spot will grab and stick. The pad does the same on that spot of the rotor.

Sometimes it can be scuffed off but most times a light cut on the rotor will remove it.
With the miles you have just let the dealer do it.

Many times if it is warped the issue is over torqued wheels. If you change your own wheels you might want to invest in a torque wrench. 110 FT pounds drive it 20-25 miles and recheck them.

This issue is not just a HHR thing but most cars from most makers suffer this issue. It is one of the most misunderstood issue on cars today.

After one resurfacing by the dealer at 8-9000 miles the shake about took the wheel out of your hand at 20,000 miles so I ordered new rotors. Put them on today and documented the job with pics just in case they warp because they have a Lifetime Warranty - Against Warping. Got free pads with them. Broke them in tonight and things are so smooth now. Here is a link to where I got them.

After removing the brakes and old rotor I cleaned the hub surface

I installed the new rotors and tightened the rotor down with old lug nuts. I then checked the run out with a dial indicator. They were perfect.

Break in was drive to 45mph and brake down to 5mph five times. Now to clean her up after the rain stops.
This is my very first post on this forum. Hello to everyone. I am usually hanging out at the Corvette forum but glad to be here also. And to the Mods I hope the pictures are not too large. I tried to make them smaller. Jim

There is an option in photobucket to make pics 640 X480. These are TOO large for sure. Or just upload them in the gallery and then copy and paste the BB Image Code. They will automatically resize when uploading.
