Broken door handle

Anyone had trouble with the door handles braking off? They are made from cheep plastic material. The cost to replace is outrageous, nothing cheep about that. Chevy should recall the door handles. Its wrong to sell that cheep mess knowing it would fail. How many HHR have had this happen?

Sometimes spellcheck is correct.

The CHEAP plastic door handles are not intended to be used as door closers, that is how they BREAK. That is what the hole in the arm rest is for.

After reading your other 2 posts, let me just say:
Take a deep breath and calm down.
This is a friendly and helpful website with some great HHR owners and members. Yes, Chevy was a little "cheap" on some stuff and some things do "break" occasionally, but it was built as an economy car so sometimes things aren't 100% perfectly designed.
And no it doesn't cost $400 to fix a door handle. Do a search here and you will find there is a much cheaper fix.
I know your new, mad and just trying to vent a little bit, but a calm post here will usually get better and more helpful responses.

I was recently at a dealership and they had a service magazine at the parts counter, in it there was a article on GM replacement door handle kits they are making. I don't know how much they are, but they seemed to be an improved replacement from GM.

Check your local auto parts store for the Dorman repair kit, the PN for the left side is 80369, the right side takes 80370.

Simple to do, less than $50, and a touch more sturdy than the OEM handles.

x2 - and do not pull the door closed with the handle - use the grip built into the door panel.

OK, here's the deal, some very nice folks have tried to address the door handle issue providing sources of repair parts.....and even part numbers in my case.

Continual posting of gripes about it in other threads is disruptive and useless, and it will not be tolerated.

That being said, take a deep breath or two, head to your local Napa, Autozone, advance, O'Reilly, or Western Auto and pick up a repair kit.

'Nuff said.
