Buying Used HHR 2.4....
Yeah, been thinking about the SS. I need to check to see what the diffs are between the SS and the 2.4.
As for P-38. It is the recumbent I ride. Also ride an Seiran SL.
Also my Dad was based in Santa Maria when he saw a guy fly a P-38 into a billboard. The Air Force then had a guy come out and show the recruits how to fly a P-38. He said the guy was so good. He flew 30 ft off the ground with one engine stopped and rolled the plane. Now that would have been cool to see. So I like anything P-38. Someday I will see one in person at an airshow. Even have shot my brothers P-38.

I've seen P-38 planes at airshows. Them suckers are badass.
The 2.0 Turbo in the SS is being used in the new Buick Regal GS. Chevy plans to keep the engine around for quite awhile, but the HHR is not long for this world. There's lots of great deals on non-SS models, new and used. New SSs are still around, but take some legwork. Used ones..who knows? It's not like you see one coming the other way very often, and most folks who have them know they're sitting on a soon-to-be-scarce little hot rod.
getting a used 2.4
There are forum discussions elsewhere about common HHR problems. The most annoying on cars after 2006 seems to be the sunroof deflector rails failing.
Other threads compare the 2.4 (specfically 2LT, since the 2.4 engine can be an option with 1LT) with the SS. The most important point is that the acceleration of the 2.4 with a manual transmission (0-60 in 7.9 sec) is comparable to the SS automatic (7.2 sec). I believe that the "sweet spot" for the HHR on price, comfort, and performance is a well-equipeed 2LT manual, but that combination is quite uncommon to find used because I believe it required a special order from the factory.

I wonder why the HHR doesn't use the 2.4L that the Equinox has for a base engine. That and the Equinox 6-spped auto would make a nice combination.
I never did understand why GM still makes so many different engines for their cars. A nice 4, a nice 6 and a nice V8 is what is needed.

It was worth the drive-I've been very happy with mine.
Responses...
Thanks for all of the responses. It helps a lot. I will let you know what happens.
I currently own a 12 year old Saturn SC2. The thing is bullet proof. The only problem has been a broken clutch cable in 12 years. But it is getting up there in milage. And I am kinda nervous about getting a Chevy, but somewhre I read that the Saturn VUE uses the 2.4 engine. So hopefully the engine lasts like my Saturn.
Thanks again!
