In regard to the Passenger Compartment Filter........

I would suggest checking it very well to see if it really does need replacement.

The OEM Delphi filter is composed of FILTERING MATERIAL and CHARCOAL (which provides a "dirty" gray appearance) that may appear to be dirty. It also has an ADDITIONAL MEDIA on the "in" side that is somewhat course and grainy, that assists in trapping contaminants.

Based on several of the aftermarket filters I have seen, none provide the charcoal or additional media.

But, the real issue is, are you mistakenly replacing a "mostly" clean filter with another clean filter. Your call and extra, maybe needless, expense.

Good points Snoopy. The Napa Gold (Wix) filter I put in last night had no charcoal in it. It was also a lot more flimsy than the Delphi one which made it rather difficult to install.

I assumed that the darkness of the OEM filter (which was in the car for 15 months) was dirty. I know there was a lot of dirt, leaves, and bugs in it.

thanks, I didn't even know I had a cabin air filter!
Gotta love this site. Thanks for the info guys.
I'm almost afraid to check mine after the leak I had, although my glove compartment was dry.

This is a good thread. Just got a quote from the dealer for $69.95 for the cabin filter. It was part of a $833 quote for the 100K service.
I think I'll do some of this type of service in my own little garage.

I think you paid a little to much.....

I purchased the AC Delco OEM (Delco # CF125, GM part # 52493319)for around $16.00/ea. and shipping was free....although I did purchase many other items in addition..

The part number you provided has 2 "things" wrong with it. It is the WRONG GM part number (see above) AND you have way to many numbers in it. Chevrolet only has service/replacement part numbers with a total of 8 digits/places. There are very rare circumstances, this is NOT one of them, where GM alters the numbering sequence.

I'm providing this info for other members, not to criticize you!! I'm sure better prices are available somewhere else. Again, just a reference for others.

The "activated charcoal" ones do cost more. However, the cheap $11-$15 ones are stocked in my local Advance/Zone/Pep. Don't know about the various P/Ns.

thanks for the correction Snoopy - wrong info is often worse than no information. :)
