Car Alarm Switch Malfunction

So I just got home today and I'm used to just clicking away at the little car alarm switch I carry on my keychain. I do this to either lock up my HHR, open it, or start it up while I'm still getting my things before I head off in the morning. But now the darn little switch is making no type of signal or not communicating with the car. SonI essentially have to lock it up manually. Does anybody have any idea what to do. Who should I call or look into? Thanks.

"little car alarm switch" ? Are you talking about your fob, or remote as it's called?

First thing would be to check the battery in the fob. You didn't bother to give any info on your car like year, model etc. Factory alarm or aftermarket add on? If it's as old as an 06, then the fob battery could be that old.

No offense, but from your post, it sounds like you're not very car savvy. Best to let someone else look at it for you.
Your local auto parts store can usually test the fob and see if it's working.

He's got an '06, and it sounds like a classic case of a dead keyfob battery to me.

When the fob battery was low on our 06, the DIC display would show 'KEY FOB BATT LOW'. If he's not seeing that the battery may not be the problem.

Yes

Yes I am not at all car savvy. I really appreciate the info guys. But I want to ask the person who posted about the DIC letting you know when the FOB battery was low. What exactly is the DIC? Is that where one reads the mileage and how much gas is left in the car?

You obviously need an Owners Manual: https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/gene...s-manual-3074/

Yup, it's the one that reads the mileage and how much gas is left in the car.

Better grab one of those owners manuals and so a bit of reading - it will surprise you how many cool little things are built into the car.

Do you have a second FOB does it work normal, I would stop by any auto parts store and have them change the battery for you, it should be a CR2032 battery
