No. They shouldn't.
I was talking about the UQ3 option, not the entire system. The option is a Pioneer amp and Pioneer speakers. Thus, the name Pioneer system is for the option, NOT for the entire audio system.
Since GM didn't want to put the Panasonic name in the RPO listings...............That's between GM and Panasonic.

US8 Audio system, AM/FM stereo with CD player and MP3 playback
US9 Audio system, AM/FM stereo with 6-disc in-dash CD changer and MP3 playback
these are the RPO codes for the HU

as we see in your RPO sheet, you have the 6 disc unit.

Exactly. But I ain't gonna touch this.

I am curious about this Pioneer amp and why is it located just next to the woofer. Is it powering the entire speakers or just adding power to the subwoofer?

Scroll down for pics of the harness, shows that the amp powers all speakers.

I followed this how-to, installed another amp and sub. Made a huge difference.

Great.

And just to clear things out a little more, the only difference between a Premium HU and non-Premium HU is the amp in the rear (with the sub). In a non-premium system it's the Panasonic HU driving the entire speakers, I suppose.

I discovered last summer the HU is only that, it drives the 6 speaker system or the amp in the 7 speaker system.

Notice in the Crutchfield article the Pioneer system door speakers are larger in diameter

Ok hence why you need to convert the high level output from the Panasonic head to a low level output before hooking it to an amp otherwise it will fry it. Ok I think we are all good now.

Next time I sit in my HHR and kick a good song, I am gonna tell myself: Panasonic makes great audio.

The amp has low-level inputs, so I'm going to guess that the headunit has low-level outputs.

Good guess, then the amp, if equipped, pumps it to high level.
