Changing battery

Do I need one of those "keep alive" devices to change battery, that is will disconnecting battery affect the car's central computer or the radio anti theft? Just wanted to check. My HHR is a 2011 so that is a "new" car to me. My other is a 2003 Focus and no issues changing it on that one. BTW radio is stock.

No. But it will reboot all the computers. It won't give you any issues but certain things will have to run through some diagnostics tests that can take several key cycles. Just change the battery and drive like normal.

One caution: Don't change the battery if you're due a state vehicle inspection within a few days. All the diagnostics will not be complete and you may fail the inspection.

Welcome to the site, put a folded towel over the lift gate latch to prevent the hatch closing with the battery disconnected, it’s not fun crawling in the back with the spare tire and battery out. And X2 as Firemangeorge has pointed out.

Should not need a keep alive, but they are cheap insurance.

Welcome....

Memory saver, most auto parts stores have them. I just use my big battery charger hooked to my under hood terminals, & have it set @ 2 Amps, which = almost 9 volts., & on constant charge, doing the swap.,

When you use that method, make sure the positive cable doesn’t touch any metal body parts , you could Ray the computers
