I was told by the service manager at the local dealer, they had replaced a number of damaged struts, he said as a result of using it as a ground for jump starting. It got kind of controversial on one of these threads, but in my mind, better safe than sorry, and its really no big deal to do, so since there is certainly no harm using the block as a ground, I will continue to do so.

Laco......

And I trust, the Service Manager notified GM of the replacement, do to what he concluded, was a defect. At least that is what he is required to do.

And, let's see........no TSB or Bulletins, or correction mailings to Owners, or anything, from GM/Chevrolet regarding this "problem"......hmmmmmm.

As I said, it became controversial, but its so easy to clamp onto the block, its just not a big deal. I have no way of knowing how true this is, or what the rate of occurance may or may not be, but why would he lie? At any rate, as I said, I have never had any problem charging, using the connector(s) under the hood.

The important thing that's come from all of this is that you charge the battery from under the hood, not directly to the battery.
