Chee-chee-chee go my rear drum brakes
I had the rear jacked up today after work and noticed that although the rear wheels turn freely there seems to be a spot on the drums that the shoes drag against, to where when you spin the wheel it spins freely but you hear the scuffing soun d once per revolution "chee.........chee.......chee" Each back wheel does it.
Haven't had a car with drum brakes in a while. Is this normal for the shoes to scuff a little in one spot on the drum like this?
Also, on the front discs: both driver and passenger side pads are in contact with the disc lightly and the wheels spin with a slight resistance from the pads and every disc brake car I've had did this, so no big deal, but the passenger side has slightly more friction. This is with the front jacked up, shifter in neutral and spinning each wheel separately... right side you can notice just a little bit more pad pressure exerted on the disc. However, during actual braking it is dead even with no pull either side.
Mainly its the drums scuffing that I'm wondering about.

For some reason I think you are in the good old north where we have snow, salt etc. That makes things rust. Look on the back side of the drum for rust scale that may be making contact with the back plate in one spot. I had it happen (not on my HHR but older cars) and I chipped the rust scale off and nice and quiet again, may be what you're 07 has also.

I've never taken drum brakes apart before. I heard there are springs in there and they can pop out and be hard to get it back together? I have done my own disc brake jobs before, just never taken apart drums.
Springs just don't pop out unless their broken in which case they will have to be replaced. Removing the drum is as easy as removing the wheel. Always do one at a time if you're not sure, using the other as a guide.
Add one for removing the drum and get a good quality brake cleaner spray. CRC makes a really good one. put a catch pan under the brakes and blast them clean. This will also prepare the brakes and springs for a better visual check for anything wrong like rusting, etc.
I have an 08 with 1400 miles on it and already had to go in for a shimmy while braking. They turned the front rotors and it didn't fix it. Turned out one of the rear drums was creating it. After turning the brakes are back to normal. I agree clean them with brake cleaner, but it could be the drum needs turned.
