CHP "Engine Experts" Crackdown

So if you are in CA, you are probably aware of one of the latest creative revenue generators. See http://www.thenewspaper.com/news/23/2302.asp
for example. Way easier than going after real criminals, or patrolling for DUI I guess.

Key points are: Tint is a good excuse to pull you over for further inspection. No front plate is another. And don't go to car meets unless your car is completely stock, regardless of how legal it is.

My nephew got pulled over in his Acura that he just bought (used). It had recently passed smog, and had only two CARB certified mods (clearly labeled with certification). The Einstein that pulled him over wrote him up as a gross polluter because he had a fuel pressure guage, which was "obviously a variable fuel delivery system". All my years of telling him to respect Law Enforcement is out the window for a while and he is so angry (he is a hard working kid that does not deserve this). Not only that but the CHP accused him of lying about having had a smog check. Wonderful, our tax dollars at work.

Yeah, here in San Diego I heard that at the last Qualcomm races some said they saw up to 7 people pulled over getting checked leaving the stadium or stadium area.

It will happen elsewhere. What starts in CA speads to the rest of the country.

Many laws in east coast states are based on CARB regs.

That's a bunch of you know what!! I would be talking with a lawyer if I had been involved in that. I agree with the fact that it would be better money spent catching actual criminals. That burns me up and I don't even live in California.

I would LOVE to test that with a Michigan registered car (We don't have front plates, and if you have a title and insurance you can legally plate just about anything)

Sorry Cali residents, but the only thing ya got is nice weather.

Welcome to Kalifornia.

Seriously, I'd take it to trial and ask the cop to explain what a "variable fuel system" is and where exactly he found it located on the vehicle.

Also, this whole "respect law enforcement" mantra thing is stupid. They're there to put you in jail. That's their job. It's no longer "protect and serve", it's give out as many bogus tickets as we can to raise money for the city. The only time you have to cooperate with the fuzz is when you're stopped and handcuffed, and even then you have the right to remain silent and only an idiot would waive that right in this day and age.

If you think that's all we've got, then stay in MI.

Seriously, if this had happened in another state, i don't think the same response would have been said.

This is my home and I would NEVER live anywhere else. Please don't disparage it-and I won't do it to yours.

SoCal HHR hijack over--back to your regularly scheduled rant about getting pulled over.
