I think, you just need to match the color coded wires in the connectors.
IIRC they just changed the pin outs, same color wires in different positions.
However, was the switch really bad? Or, do you have a blown out CHMSL (third stop light) bulb or inexpertly installed LEDs in it?
My switch currently works, as I stated, it's just that if it inadvertently gets pushed and turned off then it does not want to stay in the on position when you press it again.
I've accidentally hit it with the heel of my palm once and spent over 30 minutes trying to get it to stay in the on position again.
I just want to get a new one before this one fails completely.
I will dig thru my diagrams and see if I can find one for both designs and see if I can match the wire locations if I can not get the correct switch.
Unfortunately it appears none of those are what I need.
When I put in my vehicle info it only shows one possible part #, D1949F. Interestingly it says that is a first design 6 pin with flat buttons but mine only has 5 pins as you can see in the picture I posted earlier. Not sure where they are getting 6 pins from. Even my wiring diagram only shows 5.
Only one that comes up when I enter my vehicle info
The second design it mentions is the D1942F which says 5 pins and beveled buttons. I already tried that one and it does not work.
If I can't find what I need then I will give this a shot.
May I ask where you get your diagrams from?
Mine has the same info but labels the pins in a different order. I am using MotoLogic which is supposed to be sourced directly from the factory repair manuals, although I have seen instances of them having the wrong info listed for what I was looking at, usually just wrong year model type mistakes.
Yours says 6-7 not used, mine says 1-2 not used but it appears they are otherwise identical in order.
Or take a gamble and buy a used steering wheel that already has the correct buttons in place.
I've seen several for sale here over the years. And we have a couple of members who part out HHR's. hellshotrod is our parts guru. Send him a PM and ask him what he's got on hand.
Maybe someone has already changed the steering wheel, so putting in your vehicle info would be pointless. If you need a 5-pin with flat buttons, there is probably one in that list that will work.
You could try leaving the year model blank, then you could view them all.

It is the original steering wheel. My mother bought the car new and I have done all of the work on it since she had it.
It appears that I may can use the D1942F by moving the wires in the connector but I would rather have the correct part.
The top chart is labelled 2006
The bottom chart is labelled 2009 (what any new part would be).
The connectors are identical, only the pins are different. Note that only 5 pins are actually used, since some double up. The colors should match on both sides.
Mine come from Mitchell OnDemand which does come directly from the FSM. Every manual I have ever looked at had some misinformation in it, The editors generally don't speak English as a first language.
