Daytime running lights don't shut off

Hi there, i just recently got a new (to me) hhr after my old one got rear ended, and I cannot turn on just the marker lights, and I can't shut off my headlights unless it's in park or the key is off, which is different than my old one. I used to be able to shut off all my light while driving, and used to be able to only have my marker lights on if I wished. It's a 2008 ls bone stock, so I'm not really understanding. Thanks for any advice that anyone might have! I'd really like to be able to only turn on my marker lights for pictures and such and be able to shut off my headlights during the day

The DRLs are supposed to go off when in park. I don't know how to make the markers light without the headlights. DRL is the headlights only, no taillights. You can turn the parking lights only on.
If your previous HHR was a 2006 the front parking lights served as DRL.

Maybe refresh your Owner Manual to 2008. Link in my sig.

Try covering the light sensor on the top of the dashboard. Then the actual headlights will turn on and, with that, the parking lamps will come on.

They always turn on thankfully, but I don't always need them on while driving

Yeah yeah yeah, sometimes I don't want to and I don't really care. Figured out how to, just had to press trip reset and info button on the steering wheel and scroll through my options till I found "ext light" and just held reset button till it showed off instead of on and now I can turn them on and off now matter what. Hope that helps somebody who's looking for the same information somewhere

Would you be so kind as to post a pic of the headlight controls on the end of your turn signal stalk?
