Sorry to hear this happened.... just goes to show in this day and age no one can be trusted... and that we should document even the slightest things.... from now on if I leave my vehicle, or anything with a repairman or service dept. , I'm going to take pictures before and after..... and keep every conversation documented.

Hi,

What an awful situation. My husband and I are convinced that these dealers just don't care after they get their sale. We too have a story, not as devastating as your's but nonetheless, we are worried and frustrated.

We just bought our HHR and it is one month old today.

Since buying the vehicle (which we love), the car has been in the shop twice. The first week it drove wonderfully, so quiet. Then it started to make a bit of a ticking noise and loud rumbling on the highway, almost diesal sounding. We were suppose to get a call from the Sales Department the following week after bringing our car home to see how it was going, but no call. We followed up with the Service Department as the car was sounding louder than when we first drove it during the initial week. (It is a standard transmission)

My husband took the car in to the Service Department, the Service Manager was in a rotten mood, as he informed my husband, complaining of a migraine, and told him that he didn't have the time to fix the problem. He told him to bring it back another time. It wasn't anything to worry about!

We live almost an hour outside of Toronto.

Anyway, we opted not to take it back to the dealer we bought it from because of their lack of interest in fixing the noise.

We took a vacation day today and brought it to a second GM dealership. They said that they couldn't hear anything and that the engine was great. Then, upon closer examination and insistance from my husband, the manager said he could hear the noise but he couldn't determine where it was coming from. He said it wouldn't affect the car and to drive it more (we now have 2000 kms on it), and if it got louder to bring it back! It is rather annoying as on the highway it is a loud enough rumble that you must turn the radio volume louder to hear it. I expect this to happen our of an older vehicle - but not a brand new one!

So, like you, we must continue to bug the dealership. I think it is awful that we are at their mercy. Our dealership did put plastic covers on the seats though and paper on the floor.

Good luck to you.

Smile

After talking with the Chevy rep I made another appointment to have the car cleaned. I was surprised when the service manager offered us a loaner car. This time they did an “extraction cleaning” which I think is the equivalent of steam cleaning your carpet. They got the car clean and I am happy with how it looks.

The service manager told me that he has put a note in our file to make sure that they cover the seats and interior the next time we bring the car in for service. If and when the car needs service we will find another dealer in the area.

Thanks for all the support and suggestions!

Jeanne

My dealership does that as standard practice.

My dealer does the same. As matter of fact the SM brings the plastic cover and paper floor mat with them when taking possesion of the car.

Angry mine was trashed as well!

Hi, I have just had the same thing happen to me. I was talking about our two issues with the car. We took it into our original dealer a couple of days ago. We left it for the day and came back at 4:00 to pick it up. Not only had they not fixed the ticking or the drifting to the left, telling us that nothing was wrong, my car interior was covered in grease.

We had insisted on the seats and floor being covered. I can't understand how this happend. The car was immaculate before entering the dealer. We had just detailed it and scotch guarded the interior. Anyway, the leather steering wheel was coverd in grease, the cloth seats too (light tan interior), the floor mat on driver's side was such a mess that I was near tears. They sent a service man out to clean but God knows what kind of a rag he used, as afterwards the grease was smeared and left brown rings on the seats. I took the car home, devasted, under the advice that if it didn't improve by the morning to bring it back. Not likely!

Anyway, we spent 2 hours scrubbing and using GM upholstery cleaner. It is better than it was, but in the right light you can still see the smudges. We too are looking into steam cleaning and we want the dealer to pay. I just am astounded that GM dealers treat their cars and customers this way.

It's too bad your not in the Ottawa area. I could give you the name of the dealership that I deal with. Never a problem.

About 95% of the time, they find the problem and address it the first time. Very rare that I have to go back more than twice for something (when I do, it's usually a suspension related noise/clunk that is hard to nail down).
