AP3 is the code for the remote start system. A list of all features, by code, should be on the build sticker in your glovebox. This should work for 2007 and I assume for 2006 also.

The remote starter button is the one on the top of the remote. The alarm button is the red button at the bottom that has a trumpet on it.I've had a few problems with the remote start feature, including not working at -21C and when it does, sometimes the running lights come on and sometimes they don't.You also get 3 tries to remote start the car.If it won't start then, you have to go out and use the key.It has started for me with the key regardless of the temp but I can't always remote start it in the same situations.
The best thing to do is to talk to the guy who sold you the car about the remote start feature and an extra remote.
Be careful changing the remote's battery. It's easy to break the connections - then you either re-solder or replace the remote. It's a flimsy setup.

well sadly I dont have remote start. I went up to my local Chevy dealer and the cool parts guy ran a bunch of info for me from the VIN. This car was a rental whcih is what others said would not have remote start.

so my car was mfg 5/11/06 and I still have until 5/11/09 or 18K miles under factory warranty. The dealer that sold it to me told me it was out of warranty in May 08, and of course sold me an expensive warranty on top of it.

Remote start can be added to your vehicle or any HHR through programming by a Chevy dealership. If you already have the correct key fob then all you have to pay for is the programming.

i believe you can remote start 3 x's before needing to slide behind the wheel and do it the old fashioned way.

Doeppel, have you thought about aftermarket insallation of remote start? Like Best Buy and Circuit City have, that work better than factory (1,250 feet distance, instread of only a lousy 200) and some have screen so you can confirm it's started... here's some examples below.

Best Buy.

Model: 771XVR Price: $379.99

Cheapest I could find with confirmation of remote start and other features. Check your Best Buy or Circuit City out, may have more of a selection than whats online...

I wouldnt go aftermarket for a remote starter. The quoted price is always "basic install included." That means that most modern cars will cost extra for additional hardware and labor to bypass security systems like the passkeyIII in the HHR. Count on 200-300 above that price.

Agreed Also would probably require the dealer to do some reprogramming.

Also, my remote works at WAY OVER 200 FEET. I was at the farthest end of a shoping mall one time, when I started my car. Probably more like 500 feet. Anything farther is unneccesary IMO.
