I drive a lot of rental HHRs and most of them with auto transmissions have the auto start, Several did not work for some reason, but most have them.
Also The rentals are not just the LS units they are also 1LT and 2LT's

Sweet! I didn't know I had remote start till I read this thread. Unfortunately, I had my husband test it without telling him what he was testing, and he had to go out on the coldest night of the year to turn it off.
No, no you just press the start button again and it shuts off.
Dave, I bought my fob remote off of eBay and everything worked, even start. I took it to mYoungs in Owosso nd they reprogramed it and it was inexpensive
So after reading it seems that Remote Start is standard with Automatic. I bought mine used from a GMc dealer. It is a 2006 LS with Automatic. I only received one key fob and it does not have the remote start button.
So can I get the correct key fob and have remote start?
Is there anything else that will tell me if I have it or not?
Thanks,
Dave

IF, the remote start is activated in the DIC AND the purple wire is somehow grounded (either with a factory installed hood switch or DIY)
Or, you have code AP3 listed in your glove box and you have activated remote start in the DIC a 3 button remote will work
1) press lock
2) press lock + panic
on the inside the "start" button connects the lock & the panic. the guts of the fobs are the same BTW.
New cars came with 1 4-button remote and 1 3-button remote, used cars come with whatever they come with. The fleet/rentals came with just the 3-button, or none.
This applies to pre 2009 anyway. If you do not have remote start option in the DIC, SORRY, requires a new BCM software flash.

Donbrew, are you sure about this? I just checked ALL my FOBs (2 per vehicle) and they are ALL 4 button. All the cars were purchased new and are GM.
