i have some knowledge of how to do it.... i changed my own pads on my old cavalier.... what kind of wrench will I need to get the calipers off?

I don't think it's fair to assume that I know nothing about changing pads and rotors just because I asked what kind of wrench I needed.

 

I don't think that is what everyone is doing. Your original post left me thinking you were a little unsure of yourself about doing your brake job. The guys are just trying to help you out by offering some advice.

Oh yea. Buy the Torque wrench. You don't want to be doing another brake job in a few months.

 

I plan on getting a torque wrench, jack stands, rotors and pads.

Maybe some caliper paint in there, too, if I'm feeling ambitious enough to mask off everything, unless I can get some brush-on style.

Is there a preferred style of rotors (OEM, Drilled, Slotted, Both) and pads (OEM Ceramic, Organic, Etc)?

 

I guess by now you have figured out you don't have to remove the calipers, just the top bolt 15mm I think. It was the easiest pad replacement I ever have done! Re the shimmie and pulsing most people seem to agree that torquing the lug nuts properly is the real trick, not replacing rotors.
