DRL Daylight running Lights... Info..

Okay.. I can't hold back anymore... I've suggested long ago .. that the DRL feature should not be used or to be disable by GM. (This pertains to California)

Why , you ask ? Well, on the HHR the parking lights are emitted to show or display as daylight running lights right ?

Per California Penal Code..
Lighted Parking Lamps
24800. No vehicle shall be driven at any time with the
parking lamps lighted except when the lamps are being used
as turn signal lamps or when the headlamps are also lighted.
Amended Ch. 58, Stats. 1961. Effective September 15, 1961.
Parking Lamps
24801. Parking lamps are those lamps permitted by
Section 25106, or any lamps mounted on the front of a vehicle,
designed to be displayed primarily when the vehicle is
parked.

So did GM, forget to check the Vehicle Codes for California.. Please check your state vehicle codes for similar

Cars built after a certain date are now exempt from that California law. The HHR is not alone in this. Many other manufacturer's also recently adopted the DRL feature.
Police cannot ticket you for a design or feature installed at the factory (such as factory window tint, or DRL's).

Also, if they "bother" you, they can be easily turned off (turn off auto lights feature).

Here's a link with more info about DRL;s:

Hope this helps,

I would think the police would follow the Vehicle Code, if its not changed, they will have to go by that..

As I was told many times when I got a ticket... ignorance is no excuse for breaking the law...

Basically, I 've should of known or looked it up.. according to the officers.

Read the link I added above. DRL"s are considered an increased safety feature.

Some manufacturer's have installed them as early as 1995.

I'm sure the vehicle code has been amended to reflect this.

And I doubt any of those other vehicles were ticketed...

I LOVE DRL's! I learned years ago to appreciate them. When driving on US Route 6 on Cape Cod, it is a dangerous roadway. There have been so many fatal accidents that you just can't count them. They have had signs up for years asking you to use headlights to prevent accidents. DRL's just make it easier and help keep you safe.

The DRL's are not the parking lamps on the HHR, the turn signal lamps are used for DRL. This shoots down the CA law, I think....
