I had the same problem as well untill Socal pointed out that new cars tend to make that sound. Which he was right.

hear it too

well when i first bought my hhr i have the 2lt 2.4 auto i could hear a tapping and i thought it was weird but i figured it was normal because of the variable timing but just last night went to start it with the remoteand it would turn over start and stall then it did it again and the same thing finally it started but ran rough as it warmed up it got better but not perfect so this morning when i went to start it before going to work the same thing happend but i never started so i called the dealer it had to be towed to the dealer the check engine light was on so the dealer pulled the codes and could not figure out what it was so they called gm and they told them that this was the second one today withthe same problem so they went through and they say its a fuse panel and a couple of relays so they have to order the fuse panel so iprobably wont have my car back till late fri or mon this sucks a brand new car well will see if it works

The lifter noise is still there I only hear it during idle as when im driving the exhuast is too loud. I will try to check to see if its the throw out bearing like SoCalHHR mention see what happens. Captain howdy I checked to see if there was a heat shield noise. and I could hear the vibration noise when im driving but the sound is totally different than what i think is lifter noise. Sometimes when I turn on the car the rpms go up and down for a couple of seconds its done this about 3 or 4 times and I also have static coming out my speakers/stereo, couple problems with the car but Overall im happy with my purchase.

I think a bad alternator can cause the static electricity noise in your radio. I think that especialy because it goes up with the RPM. Take it to the dealership and let them check it out
