sorry BullyWagon but i didnt have a chance to take in. My dumb brother burned his clutch in his integra and has no money to fix it so he uses my car when im not using it and also has the nerve to tell my car is slow and my exhaust is not loud enough for him I just tell him its better than driving a rice rocket. but as for the noise its still there.

Backfires = exhaust leak somewhere.

Make sure everything is FULLY welded all the way around.

Backfires can also occur from intake leaks as well.

The only noise I know my HHR makes is "piston slap" and I have learned to deal with it. Almost all 2.2 ecotec's I have riden in has it.

"Piston Slap"? Isn't that something you might hear on a '55 Nash Rambler?

do you have the CGS intake? my outlaw air filter rattles only when in drive intermediate and low gear. I adjusted the cgs intake and filter today. Did test drive fixed the rattle, time will tell.
