Engine Swap 2007 HHR

I purchased a 2007 HHR 2.2 with a bad rod bearing. I purchases 2 engines from the junk yard and both were the wrong one apparently. The first time they sold me a VVT and i immediately saw that it was wrong. I went back and they traded it for a second engine that appeared correct. I installed it and have now discovered it is a 2006 Engine. Is there any way to make this engine work in my 2007 without spending huge $$ or do i need to tell the idiots at my Junk Yard to find me the right engine and purchase a 3rd engine?

Thank you all..

Welcome to the site, the 2006 is an odd year the 2007 is different in several areas, oil cooler, coil pack ignition, cam shaft position sensors.
You would be better off going with a 3rd times a charm theory

Welcome
Over the years on this site it's always been recommended to try and obtain a replacement engine from the same year as your current one.
. If at all possible. Less chance of differences or one that won't work, as you found out.

I think the days of equal swaps from year to year are over. GM seems to make enough changes each year that unless you use an engine from the same year it's not going to work.

I don’t think it’s just GM, my nieces 2010 Dodge Journey has an oddball engine in it.

I am surprised the junkyard didn't do a search by VIN. Normally their computer tells them what fits what. Of course, if you went in telling them what you want instead of letting them know particulars you get what you asked for.
