Features of the HHR you may not have known
That kind of current control wouldn't be contained (hidden) as part of the module itself. It was kinda my point that you wont find a dimming feature because there isn't one. Other dimming controls are documented.
I did that the other day after a remote start and was like "well thats lucky". Pretty sure its because on older cars when you turn to start it would send a signal to the starter itself to crank, but on this car and all newer ones it sends a signal to the BCM first, which tells the starter to run. Since the BCM knows the engine is running, it doesn't send that signal further to the starter. A neat party trick (party of one) is that you dont even have to hold the key to start. Just turn it to start and let go of the key and it'll start right up!If you try this make sure you turn the key FULL forward before letting go; when I first discovered this I once accidentally turn it halfway between ON and START which will cause the injectors to run but wont fully engage the starter, resulting in a semi-flood. Only happened once when I was in a hurry not paying attention.
I figured out what was happening, when I was looking back at the brake lights through the rear view mirror the auto dimming part of the mirror engaged and it looked like the brake lights were dimming, but was just the mirror. My bad.
The light from the uncovered third brake light was activating the mirror like someone’s headlights would have.

The dimming mirrors are cool, but on my Suburban, which has dimming side mirrors, the driver side one leaked out its dimming fluid. Drat.
Probably just gonna find an ordinary one to replace it.
Haven't had a problem with the HHR's inside one, though.

:-) Features probably vary from model to model. Having a base panel, my windshield wipers don't change speed. I do have the ice warning though. I have some wiring that is/was probably part of a universal package for seat heaters, but I don't have the wiring for the subwoofer in the rear quarter (wish I did...).
