Feeling really stupid

So have been having an CEL come on telling me there is an issue with my MAF sensor after I installed a K&N drop in filter. I just changed it out for a NAPA Gold filter(couldnt find a FRAM unfortunatly) I still and the CEL just not the reduced power. Today I stop at a light and the car dies I start it up and I giv it some gas it dies again. Finally the third time it hesitates and then just takes off like theres no problem. I get to work and start making some calls and of course that sensors not covered under warranty, so I get prices to just buy a sensor at 106.20. I then start to think about my install of the filter and realized I didnt even plug the thing back in. I feel like a complete idiot, luckily I havent purchased the part yet so we will see if that works and hopefully wont have to purchase the part before I get rid of the car.
