First autocross

I may have my first attempt at an autocross in 2 weeks.

My automatic ss is trifecta tuned, ttr motor mount, and soon to be hardcore rear bar. So perhaps the car is ready.

Any tips for the racer? I've done high speed lapping on a full track in an Audi before, but no performance driving in the Hhr and never the shorter track of an autocross

Thanks!

If you get a chance to walk the course, make sure you do it - use it to examine the surface, and help memorize the course so it is automatic and you don't get lost out there. :-)

Get those tires pumped up so you don't roll a tire or dig a rim in.

Do a search for some tips using google - ie:
- http://www.delta-scca.org/2008/03/06...-driving-tips/
- http://drivefast.org/novice-tips/tire-tips/ (esp. the last paragraph re: marking tires and tire pressures)

The best tips I ever got at an Autocross course years ago was that there is a theoretical "best time" of the vehicle, and that is your target. Minimize the mistakes and you maximize your performance. And best of all - once you make a mistake you can NEVER make it up (once it is lost it is gone forever).

Top up your oil, check the brakes and empty everything out of the car you can, grab your helmet, and have fun. I'm envious. :-)

I used to autocross a lot. If they hav a map of the course look at that first. At first it is good to walk the course with some one who has autocrossed before. You want to try to walk the course at least once, more if possible, to make sure you have the layout in your mind.
I hope this helps some. Have fun and good luck.

Paul, you should come up tomorrow, we are going to go autocross at Sanderson field in Shelton. You would make 4 of us, they would have to make HHR SS class. Come on up it's a blast.....
