I bought a new sensor . No change.
I start the car, push the button on gear selector(can hear a click near the steering column in the dash. Still can get out of PARK.
Would it matter that the battery has been disconnected for several months?

It will matter if the battery is dead.

Are we forgetting the extended warranty?
If the button is stuck or doesn't do anything:
On the right side of the shifter mechanism there is a tiny servo, try squirting some WD40 or your favorite on it.
If the button is loose:
There is a Dorman repair kit that replaces the shaft from the button down to the switch.

I don't recommend the top youtube fix; it is dangerous the ****er can be moved without any inter lock.
New shifter were under $100.last I looked.

Watched both videos. Thank you
Push the brake pedal - no sound
Pull in switch on gear selector- it moves the actuator and there is a click in the column.
Cleaned the solenoid.. Lubed it.. Pushed brake pedal with key on , solenoid dose not move in gear selector.
Going to immobilize the solenoid lever inside the gear selector.
