Gas Prices & HHR

With the great gas mileage, wonderful utility plus the superb driving pleasure my SS is delivering, it might be a wonder if any of my other cars ever get out of the garage much anymore!
So far it looks like I may have hit a homerun with this one.

I'm getting 28 mpg. Which is what I was getting in my dodge car. But I wanted a suv type car that wasn't a gas hog. I was driving a hour and twenty minutes to work. So I really needed a gas saver car. I have 4 wheel drive Blazer that sucks the gas down like its nothing. Glad I found my HHR. I got the suv I wanted that wasn't a gas hog.
Now I just need to get my hubby one. We argue almost every day over who gets to drive it LOL. He never wanted to drive my dodge but he loves my HHR.

After paying over $4 a gallon a few years ago, and knowing that it would probably happen again, I knew that my next new car would have to get good mileage, which is why I bought my 2.2 HHR last June. I didn't want a little, unsafe subcompact. The HHR is a cool car, has classic looks, and gets good mileage.
But, now that gas is $4 a gallon again, I really wish I could get better mpg. My last tank of gas, I drove like an old lady, accelerated slowly, used the cruise control all the time, and even put a couple extra pounds of air in the tires, and only got 27.1 mpg. Better than the 18 mpg my old van was getting, but still.
And I find it dangerous to drive less than 63 mph or so. People swerve around me, and sometimes someone will get mad and yell too. It's not work risking an accident or road rage incident to drive slower and get better mileage, so it looks like I'll have to accept 27 mpg.
I drive 42 miles round trip, with all but 4 miles being highway.

Just got in from a trip to Huntsville, AL from Orlando, FL and the HHR did great on MPG.
Using 87 octane I was getting 30.5MPG for the entire trip of 1400 miles.
At fill-up I had an estimated range of 503 miles so I think I did pretty good!

Wife just went to her sister in Ga. I reset DIC to 0 for MPG and odometer. 1340 miles average 32.9. Gas prices stink but this kind of mileage helps cope some.
Unfortunately, she was home 5 days and headed to Ohio in Expedition - definitely not 32.9.

Always enjoyed the mileage on HHRvey. Best ever was 29MPG during a 6 hour roadtrip on a calm, 70 degree weather day driving at an avg speed of 73 MPH. The car was loaded with presents and luggage as well. Most of the trip was flat, interstate driving, but there were a few high hills in TN. I consistantly got 24/25 MPG around town in the 4 1/2 years I drove my HHR.
I traded HHRvey in for a brand new, '10 Enox as we needed more space. Am pleased with similar milage on the Enox 24/28MPG. Sorry folks, the advertised 32MPG on an Enox is unrealistic, still I love the ride.
I do miss the "cool factor" of HHRvey, and I smile every time I pass an HHR. I am sorry they will no longer be made. Hang on to them though, I got above Blackbook value on my trade-in. The dealers need good milage cars like the HHR's, especially with high price of gas!
